Marine Park Policy Workshop
Marine Park Policy Discussion Workshop was successfully organised on 2nd February 2010 at PICC. The workshop was held to discuss and improve the Marine Park Policy draft which has been prepared and previously discussed with DMPM Management in December 2009. The Workshop involved various Federal and State Agencies as well as NGOs.

Socialisation Workshop
Socialisation Workshop was held in Tioman Island on 7th – 11th February 2010. The objective was to foster greater understanding between the local communities, tourism operators and DMPM besides getting their feedbacks on the project. Visits and discussions were done with local communities in Kampung Tekek, Paya, Genting, Mukut, Salang and Juara. Meeting was also done with dive operators focusing on the formation of the dive operators association.

Workshop on User Requirement Study (URS) for Marine Park Management Database System
URS workshops were held at the Marine Park State Offices on:
15th March 2010 at Terengganu Marine Park Office
18th March 2010 at Pahang Marine Park Office
19th March 2010 at Johor Marine Park Office
These workshops were organised to present the findings from the 1st URS Workshop in September 2009 and to gather feedbacks and recommendations from users in the State Offices on the database system which is being developed. Findings from these workshops were analysed and presented in the 2nd URS Workshop which was done on 8th April 2010 at DMPM headquarters.

Consultative Committee Discussions & Trainings
The Consultative Committee Discussions & Trainings were done on:
15th March 2010 at Tinggi Marine Park Center, Johor
29th March 2010 at Kampung Pulau Redang, Terengganu
18th April 2010 at Kampung Mukut, Tioman, Pahang
The discussions & trainings were done to prepare and give exposure to the local communities on ways to get involve in Marine Park Management. Invitations were also extended to local communities in the nearby project sites (e.g.: Besar & Pemanggil Island, Johor).

Business Development Trainings for Local Communities
Business Development Trainings were done on:
15th – 16th March 2010 at Tinggi Marine Park Center, Johor
29th – 30th March 2010 at Kampung Pulau Redang, Terengganu
18th – 19th April 2010 at Kampung Mukut, Tioman, Pahang
The objective was to train and expose the local communities on the opportunities to improve their socio-economic status. The trainings were well received by the local communities especially the women in Redang Island.

Best Practices Trainings for Tourism Operators
Best Practices Trainings for Tourism Operators were done on:
17th March 2010 at Tinggi Marine Park Center, Johor
12th April 2010 at Grand Continental Hotel, Kuala Terengganu
20th April 2010 at Kampung Mukut, Tioman, Pahang
The objective of this training is to strengthen knowledge of environmentally sound practices and ways to implement best management practices for sustainable tourism.

Enforcement Training for DMPM Staffs
Enforcement Trainings for DMPM Staffs were held on:
26th – 31st March 2010 at Redang Marine Park Center, Terengganu - Participated by 24 staffs from all states
26th – 30th April 2010 at Tinggi Marine Park Center, Johor - Participated by 26 staffs from all states, except Labuan
The training aimed to strengthen DMPM enforcement system. Surveillance & enforcement operation was also done during the training.

Reef Watchers Orientation Course
Reef Watchers orientation course for local communities was previously held on 9 – 13 November 2009 at Tioman Marine Park Center, Pahang. In 2010, the course was organised on:
31 March – 3 April 2010 at Redang Marine Park Center, Terengganu
1-4 Mei 2010 at Tinggi Marine Park Center, Johor
This course aimed to train local communities and DMPM enforcement team to work hand in hand to protect the Marine Park. Local communities were also trained to be informers who will provide information to the authority on illegal activities in Marine Park waters. 8 locals from Sibu-Tinggi, 12 locals from Perhentian and 8 locals from Redang were trained during the 4 days course.

Seminar on Growth, Equity and Environment: Missing Link between Academic Research and Policy Matters in Marine Park Areas
This seminar was jointly organised with Faculty of Economics and Administration, University of Malaya on 15th April 2010 at Rimba Ilmu Botanic Garden, University of Malaya.
The objective is to discuss problems, challenges and economics issues in managing marine protected areas and at the same time strengthening the strategies to reduce threats to marine environment under the purview of DMPM. 9 papers were presented by researchers from various universities.

Panel session
Marine Park Management Plan Development Workshop
The workshop was organised on 20 – 23 April 2010 at Berjaya Tioman Beach, Golf and Spa Resort.
42 participants from various agencies attended this workshop which aimed to discuss and gather constructive inputs for the development of Marine Park Management Plan. Participants also took part in the field trip to meet with head of village and representatives from Kampung Salang, Juara, Mukut and Genting.
